Boy Scout Troop & VFW will Properly Retire Flags during Special Ceremony
Virginia Beach, VA - April 22, 2013
JES, the mid-Atlantic’s leading engineering solutions company specializing in foundation repair, basement waterproofing and crawl space moisture control partnered with Virginia Beach Boy Scout Troop 362 and VFW Post 392 to collect and honorably retire worn, tattered and faded flags.
Boy Scout Troop 481 delivered a new flag collection container to the JES headquarters in Virginia Beach. Boy Scout, Robert Walter refinished the flag collection container and delivered it to the JES headquarters. Walter, a scout with troop 481, partnered with a local VFW chapter to collect three old USPS mailboxes in order to repurpose them for flag collection containers.
Says JES owner, Stella Waltz, “JES is proud to house this well done collection container to safely and respectfully house old, worn or torn flags until they are collected for a proper retirement ceremony.”
JES has collected worn, torn and faded American Flags for honorable retirement for 10 years; partnering with local Boy Scout troops to ensure that flag is retired appropriately.
According to Chapter 10, Section 176 of the United States Code: “The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably burning.”
Flag Collection: American flags will be collected from 8 AM – 5 PM Monday through Friday at the JES Virginia Beach office.
